Tissue Phenomics® at Work for Immuno-Oncology and Transplantation Medicine

WEBINAR DETAILS

Date: June 27, 2016 (60 minutes)

Featured Speakers:

Tissue-Based Prognostic Biomarkers

Immuno-oncology and transplantation medicine share the medical need for robust, immune cell-based biomarkers extracted from tissue biopsies. In an interdisciplinary approach, the Tissue Phenomics methodology is applied to mine clinically annotated image data. We provide proof-of-concept that spatial distribution of immune cells can provide valuable hints towards novel transplantation biomarkers. Correlating spatial immune cell patterns in protocol biopsies with the yearly loss of Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR), we show that features, previously not considered to be of prognostic value, can be discovered. The potential of Tissue Phenomics technology to exploit the full predictive power of image-based information is currently investigated in the disease-overarching SYSIMIT consortium.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

Prof. Dr. med. Friedrich Feuerhake, Consultant in Neuropathology and Head of Digital Pathology Group, Hanover Medical School, Germany

Prof. Feuerhake graduated (M.D.) from Hanover Medical School, Germany. His medical training included Internal Medicine (Teaching Hospital of Hanover Medical School), Microscopic Anatomy (University of Munich, Germany), and Neuropathology (University of Freiburg, Germany). In his Research fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Lymphoma Program) he worked on CNS-Lymphoma, aberrant NF-kB signaling, and immune response to Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma. Since 2004 he is a board-certified Neuropathologist at University of Freiburg, Germany where he also holds the position as Associate Professor in Neuropathology. From 2008 to 2012 he was Head of Experimental Pathology at Roche pRED, Penzberg, Germany. After his time at Roche Prof. Feuerhake went back to Hanover Medical School as Consultant in Neuropathology and Head of the Digital Pathology Group.

Dr. Ralf Schönmeyer, Senior Research Scientist, Definiens AG

Ralf Schönmeyer studied physics at Frankfurt University and did his PhD at the University hospital’s Brain Imaging Center on automated segmentation and quantification of anatomical structures in MRI data. Since 2007 he works in the research department of Definiens. In his role as Senior Research Scientist he manages and executes internal and external research projects also with academic partners. This work comprises image processing with related data mining and helps to pave the path for Definiens’ Tissue Phenomics approach by contributing IP, software prototypes and solutions.

THIS PROGRAM IS INTENDED FOR
