Register Today! A Review of Cardiovascular Pressure Sensing and Relevant Performance Specifications to Ensure Data Integrity

Speaker for this Event:

  • R. Dustan (Dusty) Sarazan DVM, PhD, Vice President & Chief Scientific Officer,
        Data Science International (DSI)
  • Heart with solid tip leadThis webinar will focus on cardiovascular pressure sensing and relevant performance specifications to ensure integrity of your data. Measuring cardiovascular pressures begins with an understanding of the basic physiology of the cardiovascular system.

During this 1-hour webinar, an overview will be presented to ensure understanding of pressure measurement and the pressure sensing system technologies available. Once an understanding of the physiology and technology behind cardiovascular pressure measurement has been established, the presentation will move into examples of potential errors that can occur during measurement.

Specific examples will be discussed highlighting situations where ensuring adequate performance is important to avoid potential errors. These will include hydrostatic (head) pressure, drift, frequency response as it relates to the sensor and measurement system, and finally, a special focus on the measurement of cardiac left ventricular pressure and cardiac contractility, specifically dP/dtmax.

At the forefront of implantable pressure sensing technology, Data Sciences International (DSI) pioneered this technology and has continued to improve on it since. We are pleased to offer this educational opportunity to help in the understanding of cardiovascular pressure sensing measurement and the technologies available.

    Key Takeaways:

    • A review of basic circulatory Physiology and Hemodynamics and the relation to pressure measurement and pressure sensing system technologies.
    • Discussion regarding sensor performance and potential errors. Examples will include hydrostatic (head) pressure, drift, frequency response and cardiac left ventricular pressure and contractility, specifically dP/dtmax.

    THIS PROGRAM IS INTENDED FOR

This webinar is intended for anyone working in preclinical biomedical research who has an interest in measuring cardiovascular pressure signals in research subjects.

Attendees may include research scientists and technicians, veterinarians, study directors, biomedical engineers, or anyone who has an interest in ensuring that preclinical cardiovascular data captured has a great deal of integrity.

    ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

    R. Dustan (Dusty) Sarazan DVM, PhD, Vice President & Chief Scientific Officer, Data Science International (DSI)

Dr. Sarazan received a B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of Idaho-Moscow, his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri and practiced large animal veterinary medicine for two years. He pursued his Ph.D. in cardiovascular physiology in the laboratory of biophysicist, Dean Franklin. He subsequently joined Eli Lilly and Company, where he was responsible for cardiovascular safety pharmacology, for 15 years. Dusty left Eli Lilly to join Covance Laboratories in Wisconsin as the Director of Safety Pharmacology. He was promoted to Global Chief Scientific Officer, Safety Pharmacology, with responsibility for the Safety Pharmacology and nonclinical cardiovascular safety program at all Covance sites. He left Covance after five years to join DSI as the Vice President & Chief Scientific Officer. Dusty was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Safety Pharmacology Society (SPS) and served as President in 2006. He was the winner of the 2011 SPS Annual Distinguished Service Award. During 2001-2004, he served as a member of the ILSI/HESI Cardiovascular Safety Committee, and in 2009 he became a member of the ILSI/HESI Cardiovascular Safety Technical Committee and is now the co-chair of the Integrated Strategies Working group.
