In this seminar, the speaker will present Taconic’s experience in using CRISPR/Cas9 to edit the mouse genome and how the use of this technology has changed the way mouse models are being generated. He will discuss specific examples illustrating different approaches for the application of this technology, and highlight challenges and advantages of this innovative genome editing tool.

Jochen Welcker, PhD, Director of Molecular Biology and Scientific Development, Taconic Biosciences

Jochen Welcker is Director of Molecular Biology and Scientific Development at Taconic Biosciences based in Cologne. He joined Taconic Biosciences in 2012 after a postdoc at the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin working on in vivo models for endocrine differentiation. Jochen has more than ten years of hands-on experience with the design, generation and analysis of genetically engineered mice. During his Ph.D. studies he worked with Dr. Carmen Birchmeier at the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine on different aspects of mouse development employing genetic tools. He studied Biology, majoring in Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology, at the University of Bonn, Germany.
