The Evolution of CRISPR/Cas9 in Mouse Model Generation: From Constitutive Gene Knock-out to Full Gene Replacement

WEBINAR DETAILS

Date: September 22, 2016

Featured Speaker:

  • Jochen Welcker, PhD, Director of Molecular Biology and Scientific Development, Taconic Biosciences

The MicrobiomeSince its introduction to the scientific community in 2012, the CRISPR/Cas9 technology has attracted immense interest for the generation of genetically modified mouse models with the promise of decreasing timelines and costs.

In this seminar, the speaker will present Taconic’s experience in using CRISPR/Cas9 to edit the mouse genome and how the use of this technology has changed the way mouse models are being generated. He will discuss specific examples illustrating different approaches for the application of this technology, and highlight challenges and advantages of this innovative genome editing tool.

Key takeaway points:

  • An understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of how CRISPR/Cas9 is used to generate genetically engineered models
  • Different approaches exploiting the power of CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing
  • Advantages, challenges and current limitations of CRISPR/Cas9
Keywords: CRISPR, Mouse Model

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER

Jochen Welcker, PhD, Director of Molecular Biology and Scientific Development, Taconic Biosciences

Jochen Welcker is Director of Molecular Biology and Scientific Development at Taconic Biosciences based in Cologne. He joined Taconic Biosciences in 2012 after a postdoc at the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin working on in vivo models for endocrine differentiation. Jochen has more than ten years of hands-on experience with the design, generation and analysis of genetically engineered mice. During his Ph.D. studies he worked with Dr. Carmen Birchmeier at the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine on different aspects of mouse development employing genetic tools. He studied Biology, majoring in Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology, at the University of Bonn, Germany.

THIS PROGRAM IS INTENDED FOR

Directors & researchers from pharma and biotech companies, and academia, working on disease areas that involve the use of novel models for target validations or disease modeling (e.g. neuroscience, immunology, oncology, metabolic, precision medicine).
