Ben & Jerry’s Bringing All the Cookie Dough Lovers Back Home

Ben & Jerry’s will begin selling the cookie dough chunks found in their ice cream tubs as a new product.

Ben & Jerry’s, a popular ice cream brand, announced on Thursday that they will begin selling the cookie dough chunks found in their ice cream tubs in their own packaging. They will introduce five different flavors of snackable cookie dough chunks.

Ben & Jerry’s have a variety of different flavors that range from Half Baked to Cookie Dough, which include clusters of cookie dough in the ice cream. They have been producing ice cream batches with chunks of chocolate chip cookie dough since 1984. Now, eating raw cookie dough has become a phenomenon that they want to be a part of.

Moreover, the company introduced two new cookie dough chunk flavors, including Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Half Baked chunks — a mixture of chocolate chip cookie dough & fudge brownies. These two new flavors join Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough snackable chunks.

These flavors were introduced earlier to fans and there was a lot of demand for the product. In a statement, Ben & Jerry’s say that cookie dough lovers have been asking to have a product containing only the chunks from their ice cream for many years. “We weren’t entirely surprised when cookie dough chunks flew off the shelf,” said Jody Eley, the innovation manager in charge of the launch.

“Cookie Dough is our #1 fan favorite around the world, and we know our fans often dig around the ice cream to get to the chunks. We just made it a little easier by putting them in a bag.”

Eley says dough lovers sprinkle the chunks on their sundae, snack on them mid-afternoon, or eat them right out of the bag on the way home from the supermarket. The dough is safe to eat because it’s made with pasteurized eggs and heat-treated flour.

For many years, raw cookie dough was seen as something that people were afraid to eat. This is because the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned that eating raw cookie dough could lead to foodborne illnesses due to Salmonella, or even E. coli. But today, with pasteurization and heat treatment, the nostalgia of eating raw cookie dough as a child is possible and is safely enjoyable.

Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough Chunks are available in supermarkets and participating Scoop Shops nationwide for a suggested retail price of $3.99 to $5.49.
