Canadian Costco Stores Recall Butter Croissants for Plastic Contamination

Costco is recalling their Kirkland Signature brand all butter croissants from certain Canadian locations due possible plastic contamination. The company has not released any details as to how the plastic was discovered in their croissants.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency posted a notice on Jan. 6 telling consumers to avoid the Kirkland Signature Brand “All Butter Croissants.” Some of these implicated items have best before dates reaching April 2018.

All recalled products were sold in Ontario locations. The affected stores are located in Barrie, London South, London North, Newmarket and Etobicoke. Contaminated Kirkland Signature brand “All Butter Croissants (Frozen, Uncooked) purchased from the Newmarket and Etobicoke locations.

These products were packaged on Jan. 2 And 5 and have the “Best Before” dates of Jan.7 and April 2. The recalled products and identifying codes are:

There have been no reports of injury or illness due to consumption as of yet for these recalled products. Consumers are advised to throw out or return the products if purchased.

CFIA is currently conducting a food safety investigation that may cause other products to be recalled. However, there have not been any other recent recalls of food products at Canadian Costcos. The last recall in Canadian Costco stores was in July of last year when Bayer recalled their RestoraLAX 45 + 10 Value Pack because of clumps in the product that could pose a choking hazard for consumers.
