CFIA Pulls Eat Smart Kale Salad Kits Over Listeria Fears

The 794-gram bags have an expiry date of July 17, the product code is 709351891403 and the salad is produced by Fresh Taste Produce Ltd.

Eat Smart-brand Sweet Kale vegetable salad bags are being pulled from store shelves in six provinces as a precaution due to possible Listeria contamination.

The recall warning from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) applies to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and Ontario.

The 794-gram bags have an expiry date of July 17, the product code is 709351891403 and the salad is produced by Fresh Taste Produce Ltd.

The agency said the recall was triggered by some of its test results, but notes “there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.”

“Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick,” the CFIA said in a news release. “Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.”

If you have one of these bags, the agency said you should either throw it out or return it to the store where they were purchased.
