Colorado-Based Sustainable Foodservice Supplier Expands Line of Compostable Products

The new half pans and lids are compostable and derived from renewable resources.

Foodservice products have been facing increasing scrutiny in recent years given growing awareness regarding the ill-effects of single-use plastics on the environment. Consequently, producers are increasingly searching for alternatives that help reduce their carbon footprint and improve waste diversion.

One such producer is Eco-Products, a Colorado-based sustainable foodservice supplier that is expanding its line of eco-friendly products to feature new soak-proof, compostable half pans and lids. The line, called Regalia, will feature half pans made from sugarcane and lined with a plant-based, compostable material derived from renewables called PLA.

Ideal for restaurants, caterers and others seeking environmentally-preferable solutions, the new products are available in one-, two- and four-compartment sizes, with a compostable lid that fits all of the pans. They are also microwave- and freezer-safe and can be used with hot and cold foods alike.

“At Eco-Products, we are always searching for innovative solutions for our customers seeking environmentally preferable options,” said Sarah Martinez, Senior Director of Marketing for Eco-Products. “These new soak-proof half pans make catering easier and simpler for caterers and guests alike. Everything from leftover food scraps to the half pans themselves can go into the same compost bin.”

This launch comes only a couple months after Eco-Brands launched a new line of compostable utensils, featuring Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI)-certified forks, knives and spoons.

With growing pressures to adopt sustainable materials, compostable foodservice packaging has been gaining rising momentum in the industry. The biodegradable packaging market was valued at $90.13 billion in 2019 and is expected to reach a value of $126.34 billion by 2025.

Eco-Products is one of many foodservice suppliers introducing compostable products to the market. Others include UK-based Vegware, Canada-based BioMass Packaging and US-based Genpak.

In addition to the new product line, Eco-Products offers a wide variety of cups, plates, bowls, utensils and containers made from renewable and post-consumer recycled resources. With the goal of zero waste as part of the company mission, this product launch is another step in the right direction toward reducing single-use plastics.
