Is Macadamia Nut Oil the New Olive Oil for Cooking?

Strength Genesis Macadamia Nut Oil is the newest product in the company's portfolio. Their mission is to show the benefits of using this nut oil over olive oil for cooking.

For years, consumers have been using olive oil on food and in cooking. Still, Strength Genesis believes it is time for a change and a move towards a more versatile cooking oil option — macadamia oil, otherwise known as “liquid gold” to some.

Olive oil is known for its healthy omega-3 fats and is used to aid in body repair and improve health in general. Consumers use it for cooking their eggs, chicken, vegetables, or even as a dip. But it has a low smoke point of 350 degrees F, which does not make it ideal for frying or grilling.

Strength Genesis says that Australian macadamia nut oil could be the secret ingredient many consumers have never heard of. At $29.99 for a 500ml bottle, the price of the Strength Genesis Macadamia Nut Oil is on-par with the cost of a mid-range bottle of extra-virgin olive oil.

According to registered dietician Amy McCallister Macadamia nut oil is similar to olive oil in that it has a monounsaturated fat content and is low in saturated fats. Still, it is more buttery and has 40 times the amount of omega 3 fatty acids compared to olive oil.

Those fatty acids found in macadamia nut oil help to prevent heart disease, inflammation, and stroke. Additionally, it is rich in nutrients, such as potassium and other fatty acids, including palmitoleic acid and oleic acid.

The fitness and nutrition industry uses macadamia nuts to make protein powder, and this nut oil can also be used to make capsules for dietary supplements.

“I have been working with individuals for 27 years at Dr. Derek Health & Fitness, helping them lose weight, drop body fat, reduce or eliminate medications, and improve the quality of their lives,” said Derek Alessi, the founder of Strength Genesis, in a press release. “What you put into your body matters — a lot. I stand behind this product 100-percent for its health benefits and performance.”

Macadamia Nut OilMost sales that Strength Genesis has been able to target are towards health enthusiasts and foodies. More specifically, they have been targeting keto consumers introducing them to a new oil that caters to their diets. The nut oil has a might higher smoke point which makes it less dangerous and less carcinogenic. In addition, the natural buttery texture of the oil makes cooking meat, eggs and more, flavorful and richer in taste.

The company is also dedicated to being an ethically sourced and sustainable brand. Therefore, the macadamia nut uses are 100 percent Australian, and the products are packaged in glass or metal containers. They do not use any Styrofoam, mylar, or plastics in their containers, shipping boxes, or cartons.

In 2019, the macadamia nut market was valued at $1.17 billion, and it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 9.2 percent between 2020 to 2027. One of the reasons for this significant increase is the addition of nuts and dried fruits to diets. More specifically, the increased awareness of the health benefits of nuts, or rather macadamia nuts, has allowed this market to grow significantly in the past decade. This increase is also seen as substantial in low-income communities.

The widely accepted and growing popularity of nuts is seen to have a drastic increase in the market. Therefore, the introduction of using macadamia oil in cooking, as suggested by Strength Genesis, is a move in the right direction.
