Job Description

Summary of the Position:

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for directing all the global people functions of FHI Clinical in accordance with the policies and practices of the organization, and laws and regulations that apply to our staff, domestically and internationally. The incumbent will also be responsible for the strategic human resource planning to provide the organization with the best people talent available and to position the organization as an employer of choice.

Essential Functions:

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs, and evaluates the organization's human resource function and performance.

  • Participates in the development of the organization's plans and programs as a strategic partner, but particularly from the perspective of the Company culture and impact on people.

  • Translates the strategic and tactical business plans into HR strategic and operational plans.

  • Evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items affect the attraction, motivation, development, and retention of the people resources of the organization.

  • Develops staffing strategies and implementation plans and programs to identify talent within and outside the organization for positions of responsibility. Identifies appropriate and effective external sources for candidates for all levels within the organization.

  • Develops progressive and proactive compensation and benefits programs to provide motivation, incentives, and rewards for effective performance. Manages the annual Performance Bonus Plan and Merit processes globally.

  • Designs programs and processes to permit the full development, assessment, and performance of all employees.

  • Resolves complex or difficult Human Resources or Employee Relations issues ensuring compliance with global laws, regulations, and policies. Implements human resource planning models to identify competency, knowledge and talent gaps and develop specific programs to fill the identified gaps. Areas of activity will include talent management through proper succession planning programs for key contributor and management positions, training and development programs for employees and leadership, and general business development programs to enhance employee knowledge and understanding of the business of the company and the CRO industry.

  • Provides senior and executive-level leadership coaching and management development. Establishes credibility throughout the organization as an effective listener, big picture analyst, and problem solver.

  • Develops appropriate policies and programs for effective management of the people resources of the organization. Included in this area would be programs for employee relations, policy complaints and investigations, Affirmative Action Plan and target goals, sexual harassment, external education, and career development, among others.

  • Enhances and/or develops, implements, and enforces HR policies and procedures that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization and ensure legal compliance.

  • Manages the budget and other financial measures of the HR department.

  • Continues improving the programs, policies, practices, and processes associated with meeting the strategic and operational goals of the organization.

  • Evaluates the HR division structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as for providing individuals with professional and personal growth opportunities.

  • Provides guidance and oversight to direct report(s) including the management of workload, special projects, performance management, salary review, and career development.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to lead complex programs and projects, managing timelines and business-driven deadlines.

  • Ability to successfully develop, mentor, coach and manage the performance of others

  • Strong understanding of business acumen and annual or compliance-related processes.

  • Successful history of managing projects with varying levels of responsibility

  • Adheres to privacy laws, confidentiality practices, and the intellectual property of Company.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Position Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in HR Management, Business, Communication, or related field; Master's degree preferred.

  • Required Job-Related Experience:  Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in HR in a CRO (Clinical Research Organization) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least five (5) years of experience in line management of direct reports.

  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications:  Experience and familiarity with government contracting and USG labor compliance requirements such as the FAR, OFCCP, etc.

  • Preferred Qualifications: SHRM or HRCI certification or international HR certification equivalent.

Physical Expectations:

  • Typical office environment.

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to lift or move 5-15 lbs.

Travel Requirements:

  • Expected travel time is less than 10% for this position.
