Job Description

LightDeck Diagnostics believes in a new approach to diagnostic testing where fast, accurate, simple, low-cost diagnostic tests will be run wherever and whenever they are needed, without compromise. Our proprietary LightDeck® platform combines an advanced laser waveguide with novel materials and patented manufacturing techniques to deliver lab-quality results anywhere, in minutes. We are introducing a portfolio of water and food quality testing; the first is a test for algal toxins. The LightDeck platform is currently commercialized for food and water testing as well as veterinary diagnostics with future options to expand to human clinical diagnostics.

This position reports to the Product Manager for water and food products.

Requirements

Job Duties:

As part of an interdisciplinary team of assay scientists and product development engineers, the Senior Scientist critically supports the development of optical imaging platforms for water and food diagnostics, and is expected to perform the following:

  • Develop, troubleshoot, and validate assays for diagnostic tests.
  • Take ownership of all analysis of data from diagnostic instruments, including developing appropriate data analysis algorithms and methods.
  • Determine and effectively communicate root-cause failures of diagnostic measurements, particularly with regards to understanding impacts to system-level metrics like S/N, measurement sensitivity, and diagnostic performance.
  • Provide instrumentation and analysis solutions that increase the productivity of assay development teams.
  • Assist and educate assay development teams on data analysis and experimental design.
  • May work with manufacturing and quality control to develop tests.

 

Base skills:

Experience doing assay product development.

  • Strong background in microbiology and chemistry.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical data analysis.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills applied to design of experiments and data analysis.
  • Ability to communicate highly specialized technical matter to others.
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Familiarity with biological assays
  • Image processing and analysis
  • Experience with optical detection of biological material
  • Biostatistics
  • Programming experience with general-purpose data analysis, data collection and simulation tools like Matlab, LabView, IGOR, ImageJ, etc.

Education and Experience:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or related field.
  • At least 3 years hands-on experience developing immunoassays or oligo-based assays.
