Job Description

EAG Laboratories is looking for an Organic Synthesis Scientist to join our St. Louis lab. At EAG, you will be part of a diverse team of research chemists and scientists responsible for chemical analysis. Our chemical testing lab offers deformulation (reverse engineering), contaminant identification, custom synthesis of small organic molecules, failure analysis, litigation support and expert witness services. In this position, the individual must be able to perform the following:·

  • In addition to synthesis skills, support on the analytical chemistry side of the lab is desired. Expectations includes:
  • Design experiments with limited assistance from management and/or experienced scientists
  • Interpret analytical data from GC-MS instrumentation and apply understanding to solving a specific problem
  • Apply additional analytical data from techniques such as LC-MS, FTIR, NMR and ICP in solving a specific problem
  • Write scientific reports fit for the audience that includes specific conclusions, exact methodology, and supporting analytical data
  • Work comfortably in a fast-paced environment with firm deadlines
  • Maintain analytical instrumentation and troubleshoot problems when necessary
  • Author standard operating procedures and demonstrate the ability to follow procedures
  • Collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Communicate constructively with other scientists and managers
  • Exhibit proficiency in Microsoft Office (Including Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry with focus on organic synthesis and 2 years of post-academic work experience. Or: M.S. in chemistry in 5 years of post-academic work experience as a synthetic chemist.
  • The following experiences are required: multiple steps synthesis, chromatographic purifications, interpretation of spectra data, development of synthetic routes.
  • Hands on experience with analytical instrumentation: NMR, FTIR, HPLC, LC/MS, GC and GC/MS for the purpose of confirming the identity of synthetic products.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time.
  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer or lab equipment for extended periods of time (4 or more hours).
  • Ability to operate a keyboard and other lab equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead
  • Ability to communicate clearly and understandably ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting.
  • Ability to handle small and fragile devices with tweezers and /or fingers.
  • Require close distance visual acuity with or without correction (Glasses, Contacts, etc.)
  • Must be willing and able to wear PPE such as hard-hat, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, laboratory coat and/or any other devices or equipment that is required.
  • Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with visitors, ability to complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity quota.
  • Ability to move equipment or items up to 25 lbs.
