It is a misunderstood term. Cirrhosis which is, at a very basic level, too much scar tissue within the liver in a particular pattern. It is a final common step for a lot of liver diseases. So it might be NASH but equally it would apply to someone who has untreated hepatitis or inherited liver disease or someone who might have gotten liver issues from alcohol as well.
