The global shortage of Clinical Research Associates (CRAs) to monitor investigational trials is having a significant impact across the pharmaceutical industry, driving higher costs and extending drug development timelines. Even though the CRA role can lead to a promising clinical research career, the current gap between demand and supply is projected to widen.
Pharmaceutical companies place a high premium on experienced CRAs, and the current CRA talent pool is heavily skewed towards those with 5+ years of experience. However, positions in management and leadership in the clinical research field also draw upon this experienced CRA talent pool, placing further strain on the existing CRA gap.
The problem quite simply is a lack of training opportunities for clinical professionals to begin their careers as CRAs. Over the past several years pharmaceutical companies have outsourced a majority of their CRA needs to Contract Research Organizations (CRO) to help manage costs and pipeline fluctuations. Consequently, many pharmaceutical companies have shelved their new CRA training programs, and the experience requirements they place on CROs in turn limits their ability for to grow new CRA talent for the industry.
This webinar explores the pragmatic solution of accessing clinical research talent and creating an avenue for developing CRAs through a comprehensive training program. Key elements of success include rigorous screening of candidates and robust structured support from mentors, trainers, and peers. The benefits of this solution extend beyond simply closing the demand gap, but in creating a highly engaged and productive workforce with industry leading retention.
