  • Wednesday, September 19, 2018

Join this webinar for an informative session focusing on the impact of novel bioinformatics technologies in the life sciences. With massive datasets currently being produced by very high-throughput technologies, many wonder how bioinformaticians, data scientists and statisticians can help research organizations benefit from the influx of data. Numerous operations and resources have to be performed and deployed — including data transformation on raw OMICS input, data security and integrity as well as adoption of data standards, including ontologies — for the foundation upon which cleaned and curated data can be queried to extract meaningful and reliable information and help identify trends.

Hear from experts in data analytics, biochemistry and computational biology on topics that will include how bioinformatics can effectively manage large datasets created by researchers in the life sciences, incorporating the power of machine learning in the life sciences and how bioinformatics can enable biomedical research and potentially advance drug discovery.

Speakers

Manuel Duval, PhD, Bioinformatician, Scientist.com

Manuel is a bioinformatician as well as an expert in preclinical research and translational medicine. He specializes in multivariate data analyses in the scope of identifying therapeutic intervention points. Manuel is experienced in designing data analysis workflows for drug discovery and he has contributed to various multi-discipline teams composed of clinicians, scientists and IT specialists. He also has hands-on experience with analysis of next-gen sequencing data in the context of genomic services.

Message Presenter

Dan Ryder, PhD, Director of US Operations, BISC Global

Dr. Ryder manages a team of bioinformaticians at BISC Global – a data sciences consulting firm with headquarters in Belgium and an office in Boston, MA. Dr. Ryder has spent more than 10 years in drug discovery R&D. He was trained as a molecular biologist before transitioning into bioinformatics and computational biology. Since 2015, he’s been focused on professional services with a passion for driving innovation within translational research through genomic and transcriptomic data analysis. At BISC Global, he and his team of bioinformatics consultants strive to build long lasting relationships with clients by solving problems involving statistical analyses, data visualization, and data mining. Additionally, his team is able to process and analyze immune receptor repertoire sequencing data, which aids in the understanding of the evolving field of immune-oncology research.

Message Presenter

Andrew Brown, PhD, Principal Bioinformatic Scientist, Arrayo

Andrew was trained as a Biochemist, specializing in NGS sequence analysis of RNA. He spent a significant portion of his academic and professional career using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to identify and characterize genetic diseases such as cancer. Andrew has spent an equal amount of time at enterprise level Biotech firms developing high throughput computational algorithms as a solution to identify histocompatibility for tissue and organ donations, and determine microbial communities based on NGS analytics of gut samples. Andrew serves as a member of the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) Clinical Genomics group and has used this standardized data model in a variety of enterprise clinical solutions.

Message Presenter

Jean Claude Zenklusen, PhD, Director, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)

Dr. Jean Claude Zenklusen earned a Masters of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires in 1990. He received his PhD in Cancer Biology & Genetics from The University of Texas, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, in 1995. In 1996, he took a post-doctoral position at the National Genome Research Institute; while participating in the Human Genome Project there, he cloned two novel tumor suppressor genes. From 2003 until 2009, he was the Senior Staff Scientist at the Neuro-Oncology Branch of the National Cancer Institute directing the Glioma Molecular Diagnostic Initiative and its companion data portal, Rembrandt. From 2009 until 2013, he served as the Scientific Program Director of the Office of Cancer Genomics, where he oversaw a variety of large-scale projects. In August 2013, he was named as Director of The Cancer Genome Atlas, the largest-scale cancer genomics project to date.
