Dr. Robert (Bob) Hanner is an Associate Professor at the Biodiversity Institute of Ontario & Centre for Biodiversity Genomics at the University of Guelph. He earned a B.S. in Biology from Eastern Michigan University in 1992 and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Oregon in 1997. He held a Kalbfleisch Postdoctoral Fellowship at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) from 1998 to 1999 and then served as Curatorial Associate for the Ambrose Monell Collection for Molecular and Microbial Research at the AMNH, where he spearheaded development of the Museum’s genomic resource collections (2000-2003). He then joined the faculty of the Coriell Institute for Medical Research, where he served as Scientific Program Director of the Coriell Cell Repositories from 2003-2005. He also served as President of the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) from 2003-2004. He is an Associate Editor of Mitochondrial DNA and also serves on the editorial boards of Biopreservation and Biobanking and GigaScience. He has authored over 60 scientific publications and exposed widespread seafood fraud using molecular techniques. His work has been featured in the New York Times and CBC Marketplace, among many other media outlets.
