Professor Lisa Jack contributed to Professor Chris Elliott’s review of food safety, commissioned to review food safety after the 2013 horse meat scandal. She is currently carrying out research into the cost of fraud and resilience to fraud in the food industry, and developing cutting edge courses for the food industry using the University of Portsmouth’s unique approach and experience of counter fraud and forensic accounting.

She will provide the latest update on her research including:

  • Why clues to food fraud are found ‘outside the box’;
  • Best practice in counter fraud for the food industry; and
  • Using forensic accounting to track food fraud.

Lisa Jack, Professor of Accounting and Chair, Food Fraud Group, University of Portsmouth Business School

Lisa Jack is Professor of Accounting at University of Portsmouth Business School and has extensive experience in food supply chain research. She is also a qualified accountant, working as an auditor for 10 years before moving into higher education. Lisa currently leads the Food Fraud Group for the Centre of Counter Fraud Studies at Portsmouth where she is carrying out research with Jim Gee into the cost of fraud and resilience to fraud in the food industry, and developing cutting edge courses for the food industry using our unique approach and experience.With Jim Gee and Mark Button, she co-authored the report ‘Minimising fraud, maximising value in the UK food and drink Sector’. Other roles include teaching on the Business School’s forensic accounting programmes and jointly leading the ‘Gate to Plate’ research group with Dr Mark Xu. Lisa is the author of ‘Benchmarking in Food and Farming: creating sustainable change’ published by Gower and on the advisory board of IFSIP http://www.ifsip.org/
