The market is more receptive to products that are as natural as possible and with similar health promoting value as the foods consumers eat up. Not to be neglected is the desire for plant-based, sustainable products that benefit healthy aging, well-being and the environment. Increased demand, in combination with recent disruptions in supply chains, has led to a heightened risk for sub-standard or adulterated ingredients with wild claims and regulatory issues entering the supply chain.

Responding to a growing demand for premium, eco-friendly, clean and sustainable botanical ingredients for the health-aware and environmentally conscious aging consumers, Spain-based global supplier of pharma-grade botanicals developed the Mediterranean fruit and vegetables extracts™. These premium standardized ingredients are inspired by the health-promoting and trendy Mediterranean diet in practical formats, backed by published studies and ongoing research on healthy aging applications such as cardiovascular, metabolic, cognitive and mood support, sports nutrition, mobility and beauty from within.

With this new line of extracts, Euromed dives deep into locally sourced, edible Mediterranean fruits and vegetables that are staple in the Mediterranean diet.

Locally grown and collected pomegranates, olives, figs, artichokes, spinach, lemons and cucumbers are gently processed with eco-friendly technologies such as the Pure-Hydro Process®, preserving and enhancing the properties of the plant’s compounds without any impurity from residual volatile solvents. The extracts are water soluble, bioavailable and highly concentrated, suitable for the most complex formulas making them versatile and unique premium botanical ingredients.

Obtained with a transparent and clean process from edible botanicals through vertical integration and full control of the supply chain, batch to batch consistency is guaranteed and regulatory hurdles are less stringent as compared to ingredients that would fall under the novel food category.

The first of a two-part webinar series will introduce the context of the Mediterranean diet and healthy aging. The focus will then move to ingredients from pomegranates, olives, lemons and artichokes, with particular emphasis on polyphenols and flavanones from these botanicals. Other more recently launched ingredients from figs, spinach and cucumbers will be presented in a second part webinar, later this year.
