  • Wednesday, March 06, 2019

Group A Streptococcus (Group A Strep) remains fairly unchanged and is well-understood by the scientific community. However, our methods of detection have significantly improved as have the various options for testing. With so many advancements in the landscape of molecular diagnostics, it is vital for all healthcare institutions to thoroughly understand and appropriately plan for common and potentially, high volume tests.

In this free webinar, the featured speaker will review and explore the topic of “The Group A Strep Diagnostic Algorithm” and support a closing Q&A session. As part of his discussion, he will define and review items such as testing requirements, the disease state, prevalence in specific demographics and geographies, disease implications, the benefits and drawbacks of various testing methodologies and the testing needs of today’s variety of healthcare settings.

Speaker

Paul Lephart, PhD, D(ABMM), Assistant Professor, Microbiology, Associate Director, Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, University of Michigan

Dr. Paul Lephart earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Pathobiology from the University of Minnesota, followed by a fellowship at the Department of Microbiology in the Kumamoto Laboratory at Tufts University, and a second fellowship in Clinical Microbiology at the University of Rochester Medical Center and School of Medicine. He earned various appointments at the Detroit Medical Center and is currently the Associate Director, Clinical Microbiology Laboratory and Assistant Professor of Pathology at Michigan Medicine at the University of Michigan. He also holds many seats on various committees and editorial review boards and has authored or co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed articles.

Dr. Lephart’s clinical interests include bacteriology, virology, antimicrobial stewardship, and infection prevention. He strives to keep the microbiology lab on the cutting edge of diagnostic technology with the goal of helping deliver the best in patient care.
