Job Description
The In Vivo Pharmacology Associate Director (IVP AD) is a laboratory-based position. The incumbent will be responsible for the management, design and execution of research and pre-clinical studies in support of Poseida Therapeutics portfolio of cell and gene therapy products. It is expected that the IVP AD is innovative and has deep knowledge of cellular and molecular immunology with a robust background in animal models of disease to evaluate the basic biologic components associated with CAR-T, and gene therapies, that will enable the identification of potential therapeutic benefits or risks. Furthermore, the candidate will be part of a collaborative team that develops, implements, and supports in vivo platforms focused on reproducible, high quality, and robust drug discovery experimental procedures.
Responsibilities
These may include but are not limited to:
- Manage, develop and implement reproducible and high-quality animal models for the determination and evaluation of CAR-T, gene therapies, and other areas to meet Poseida's portfolio.
- Lead, develop and execute in vivo product screening in support of product development.
- Oversee and perform molecular biology assays such as production of CAR-T cells, flow cytometry, ELISA, and immunohistochemistry.
- Work collaboratively with research teams to identify possible toxicology effects and therapeutic strategies.
- Critically review and analyze data, communicate results, and troubleshoot preclinical research accordingly.
- Prepare study protocols, experiment reports, as well as QA/QC, and regulatory documents.
- Performs study protocol tasks including (but not limited to) xenografts, dosing, data acquisition, data recording and data analysis.
- Trains staff in diverse techniques in vivo and in vitro
Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ph.D. in a Scientific discipline with at least 8+ years relevant experience preferred. Master’s or Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of relevant industry experience.
- Extensive experience in in vivo pharmacology, animal model development, and cell therapy.
- Experience with xenograft tumor models required.
- Experience in genetic animal models a plus.
- Proficient in small animal survival surgeries for more than one therapeutic area is a plus.
- Proficiency in laboratory bench skills such as multi-color flow cytometry, ELISAs, Luminex, western blots, IHC, BLI, molecular biology for CAR-T production
- Analytical methods for functional characterization of T cells such as activation, cytotoxicity, cytokine secretion, and proliferation
- Ability to analyze data and synthesize information from various disciplines into an experimental design and execution.
- Proficiency in culture of primary and immortalized mammalian cells
- Excellent scientific capability demonstrated by scientific accomplishments such as publications, invited presentations, etc.
- Experience in working and leading teams in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dynamic, complex, and fast-paced team environment.
- Ability to travel between Poseida facilities as well as to the vivarium.

Associate Director, In Vivo Pharmacology Salary Range is: $149,000 to $186,000
The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience with the industry, education, geographic location, etc.
