Job Description

Are you ready to shape the future of medicine? The race is on to speed up drug discovery and development to find answers for patients and their families. Your skills could be critical in helping our teams accelerate progress. Join our Data-Rich Experimentation group, a team within Process Chemistry, as a Principal Scientist and you will be responsible for the design and development of commercial manufacturing processes for drug substances in clinical development. Under the direction of the Head of Data-Rich Experimentation, the primary responsibilities of this role are to apply high-throughput technologies, automation platforms, and data science/artificial intelligence to support multi-step route development and evaluation activities, with the goal of establishing commercial drug substance manufacturing processes through the management and execution of in-house and outsourced laboratory activities.

We are an innovative global healthcare company with one purpose: to chase the miracles of science to improve people’s lives. We’re also a company where you can flourish and grow your career, with countless opportunities to explore, make connections with people, and stretch the limits of what you thought was possible. Ready to get started?

Main Responsibilities:

  • Use high-throughput experimentation as a tool to elucidate chemical reactivity and evaluate synthetic routes
  • Develop and manage automation workflows to accelerate reaction discovery and optimization
  • Use every conceivable chemistry tool and method to develop new synthetic pathways (photochemistry, biochemistry, flow chemistry, electrochemistry, on-line analysis, structural analysis (NMR, UPLC/MS))
  • Assist in the design, planning, and execution of risk-informed, multi-step experimental studies to provide safe, effective, robust, and scalable drug substance manufacturing processes
  • Collaborate across project teams by working closely with analytical chemists, process engineers, pilot plant experts, and project managers within the CMC Synthetics organization
  • Communicate scientific results in a clear, concise and precise manner using electronic lab notebooks, development reports, discussions and project presentations

About You

  • 4+ years of experience working in a CMC organization
  • PhD in organic or synthetic chemistry, or related field
  • Experience with high-throughput experimentation, chemocatalysis or biocatalysis, including catalytic process characterization and/or mechanistic analysis
  • Familiarity with automated laboratory equipment (e.g., Chemspeed, Mettler)
  • Strong record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to operate flexibly in a dynamic environment and with tight deadlines
  • PhD in organic or synthetic chemistry, or related field

Why Choose Us?

  • Bring the miracles of science to life alongside a supportive, future-focused team.
  • Discover endless opportunities to grow your talent and drive your career, whether it’s through a promotion or lateral move, at home or internationally.
  • Enjoy a thoughtful, well-crafted rewards package that recognizes your contribution and amplifies your impact.
  • Take good care of yourself and your family, with a wide range of health and wellbeing benefits including high-quality healthcare, prevention and wellness programs and at least 14 weeks’ gender-neutral parental leave.
