Senior Research Chemist – NMR Spectroscopist

Job Description
Eurofins PSS is seeking a small molecule NMR spectroscopist to join our client analytical team which is an integral part of the Chemistry team located in Boston, MA.
The ideal candidate will:
- Keep safety as the top priority at all times, striving to maintain a proactive safety culture.
- Operate and provide troubleshooting of NMR spectrometers, including cryogen refills and other day-to-day activities to keep the instrument operational.
- Hands-on experience in maintaining NMR instruments (magnets, consoles, software).
- Experience with Bruker NMRs
- Verify and elucidate small molecule structures using multidimensional liquid NMR
- Develop and implement NMR experiments for structure elucidation, quantification, and small molecule conformational studies in solution.
- Work closely with client chemists and project teams to develop innovative analytical approaches to address specific challenges and bottlenecks.
- Support other research efforts at various small companies working with the client
- Leverage academic and industrial/vendor innovations to relentlessly pursue technological improvements and work coherently with the Automation and IT groups to create a next generation analytical laboratory which enables rapid portfolio advancement.
- Drive lifecycle management for the laboratory instrumentation.
- Contribute client lab-wide initiatives embracing diversity of thought, background, and experience to deliver creative solutions in the face of ambiguity.
Qualifications
Education
Minimum Qualifications: One of the following:
- Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related Physical Sciences with 3+ years of small molecule NMR experience in academia or industry
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related Physical Sciences with 7+ years of small molecule NMR experience in academia or industry
Additional Desired Skills:
- Extensive hands-on experience with modern NMR techniques and instrumentation.
- Experience with RNA and DNA characterization using NMR, ranging in size from monomers and dimers to longer oligonucleotides.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret advanced 2D NMR experiments.
- Excellent problem solving and decision making.
- Prior track record of scientific contributions including peer reviewed publications, patents, or presentations.
- Experience in NMR pulse programming.
- Prior experience with nucleic acid and/or oligonucleotide NMR is a plus
- Excellent English language oral and written communication skills.
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting software and hardware for analytical instrumentation
- Ability to interact with multifunctional technical/non-technical personnel and be an effective participant in a team environment capable of carrying out independent research programs with minimum supervision.
- Working understanding of organic, medicinal, and oligonucleotide chemistry
- Experience or working knowledge of other analytical techniques, including Mass Spectrometry and liquid chromatography.
- Experience in a range of NMR data processing tools and prediction software. Mestrenova, ACDLabs, or Topspin CMC experience is a plus.
