Job Description

The Associate Director of Research Operations holds the responsibility of ensuring streamlined and efficient operational functions across diverse areas within the organization. This role involves overseeing space utilization, support processes, and the operational area environments in support of the JAX mission. Upholding stringent operational policies and protocols while achieving quality and efficiency goals constitutes the core focus of this role. The incumbent will spearhead the implementation of policies and systems to optimize overall operational functionality and ensure client satisfaction.

 

 

Key Responsibilities (What you contribute)

•    Represents the Office of Research in discussions on space, equipment, Scientific Services, IT, safety, animal care and other matters related to the smooth operation of the research enterprise.
•    In collaboration with research leadership and Facilities:

  • monitors research space utilization, maximizing efficiency and recommending new configurations;
  • develops and implements long-term research space optimization strategies for space usage, adapting to evolving needs and planning for future capacity requirements;

•    Coordinates planning and logistics to accommodate new research programs
•    Provides budget oversight and expense approval on behalf of research leadership;
•    Serves as a liaison between stakeholders and JAX operational groups (e.g., HR, Finance, Facilities, IT, Communications and Marketing, etc.) to anticipate and resolve issues in a timely manner, and ensure strategic alignment.
•    Leads operational onboarding of new research staff as well as new research programs, including space assignment and coordination of operational area setup, serving as a point of contact for ensuring renovations and purchases are timely, and any issues are addressed in a timely manner.
•    In coordination with Facilities and the Office of Research, assists in establishing and implementing policies and protocols to streamline space management;
•    Participates as the research representative on special committees and key cross-functional initiatives impacting space and research operations. Responsible for gathering and analyzing data as an outflow of these committees/initiatives and facilitating the effective flow of communication to/from key stakeholders and decision makers.
•    Works with HR and management to develop and implement programs that focus on the development and growth of employees and supports a positive and engaging culture.
•    Develops priorities and timelines related to institutional support of research programs located at assigned research facility. Works with local managers to achieve these priorities with guidance, support and input from research leadership and other JAX operational groups as needed.
•    Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (What you're good at)

​•    Excellent business communication skills.
•    4+ years of experience in team leadership.
•    Minimum eight years of operations management experience, preferably in a contract research organization.
•    Proven ability to lead, train, and mentor staff effectively.
•    Strong problem-solving skills and team-oriented approach.
•    Proficiency in optimizing complex operations for efficiency and quality.
•    Advanced analytical and interpersonal skills.
•    Ability to lead and build key relationships across diverse organizations.

 

Education: Bachelor's required/Master's preferred

Experience: 4 years required/ 6 years preferred
Supervisory: 4 years required/ 6 years preferred

 

 

Pay Range:  $119,533 - $186,656
