Job Description
Reporting into the SVP Global Medical Affairs, the Executive Director Global Medical Communications is a highly visible role that is responsible for providing leadership in the development and execution of global medical affairs communications, including processes and systems that ensure development of compliant and aligned medical communications. The role is responsible for developing strategic communications alignment with cross-functional leaders such as corporate communications, clinical development, research, program leadership, regulatory, and marketing. They will provide leadership in support of development of a global medical communications strategy that advances the awareness, understanding and credibility of Biocryst’s science. #LI-Remote
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead a team of professionals responsible for publication planning, scientific communications, global medical information and medical congress planning (see further details below)
• Lead strategic publication planning and oversight of publications vendors to develop, submit and deliver abstracts, poster, presentations, and manuscripts.
• Ensure consistent adherence to publications policies in accordance with good publication practices through oversight and leadership of publications activities.
• Lead development of core scientific communication platform, including processes and systems that help to ensure aligned and appropriate utilization of approved communications with internal and external stakeholders.
• Fosters collaboration with Executive Leadership to inform and understand corporate strategy and ensure alignment with Scientific Communications Platform.
• Collaborate with the Corporate Communications, Clinical Development, Research, Regulatory and Medical Affairs teams to translate data evidence into medical communication objectives, key messages and activities.
• Oversee establishment of digital, web based, and mobile optimized educational materials that enable peer-to-peer education among external HCPs, while ensuring scientific accuracy, objectivity, fair-balance, and alignment with internal scientific plans. and gain feedback on strategies to support medical affairs plan for pre-launch and marketed products.
• Oversee strategic development, implementation, and execution of a Global Medical Information (MI) Plan, including oversight of the Global Medical Information Call Center, development of Global Medical Information systems, tools, and processes to ensure optimal access to medical information resources.
• Oversee creation, management, and implementation of annual congress strategy and long-term strategic congress planning process for Global Medical Affairs as well as activities of medical meetings & congresses and drive cross-functional congress team preparedness, including coordinating pre-, on-site, and post-conference coverage outputs
• Collaborate with Legal/Compliance and Regulatory affairs and ensure understanding and adherence to external policies and regulations.
• Provide disease and product training in collaboration with key internal stakeholders.
• Demonstrate and apply a deep understanding of government and industry guidelines, regulations, laws, etc., for appropriate scientific/medical exchange and communication with customers.
• Demonstrate, and lead by example, compliant behavior in all aspects of company work.
• Perform all duties in full compliance with company policies and governing law.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree or Advanced Scientific Degree preferred.
• 12 or more years relevant experience in industry related communications and operations roles.
• Demonstrated strong ability to build and maintain key external relationships across key stakeholders.
• Outstanding presentation, written and oral communication skills required. A clear communicator who can influence effectively both internally and externally.
• Prior experience in helping to develop medical strategic and tactical communication plans in support of drug launch in rare disease areas is preferred.
• Highly motivated, decisive, and results-oriented individual with the flexibility and creativity to excel in a rapidly growing and changing environment.
• Track record of developing systems, processes and innovative digital/virtual channels for scientific communication and analytics.
• Proven ability and leadership skills to work with multiple teams and drive results within a rapidly evolving operating model.
• Must be able to actively manage and track many complex projects in parallel, structuring the actions of many people toward share outcomes.
• Experience working with all levels of management and consulting with key business stakeholders.
