General Summary:
Under direct supervision from a leader on the Leadership Salary Plan (grade up to and including M07), the Medical Secretary provides essential medical operations support to the orthopedic clinical department. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology and procedures in a hospital, clinic, or laboratory setting. The Medical Secretary also assists with special projects as defined and assigned by the department.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day operations for multiple providers within the orthopedic department
- Answer and direct phone calls with professionalism and strong phone etiquette
- Schedule appointments and coordinate patient flow using EPIC and other systems
- Perform accurate keyboard typing and data entry
- Maintain patient records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and staff
- Demonstrate willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Support clinical staff with administrative tasks and special projects
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- One (1) year of experience within a medical office setting preferred.
- Literacy and experience working with Microsoft Software Programs required.
- Previous experience scheduling appointments/maintaining calendars preferred.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with callers and visitors, and provide information requiring ordinary courtesy and tact.
- Ability to distribute departmental mail and other materials. Familiarity with medical terminology.
