Primarily responsible for the assay design, execution, and presentation of biophysical characterizations and working collaboratively with a team of experienced scientists to facilitate all aspects of the Biophysics Laboratory.
Responsibilities
- The scientist plays a key role in the biophysics team - responsible for developing and executing biophysical characterizations including but not limited to HT-SPR, MST, DSF based screening and characterizations pertaining to a variety of drug discovery campaigns.
- The scientist will also work closely with a diverse team of scientists to facilitate various aspects of discovery biology assays (HTS laboratory).
- Ability to run assays based on established protocols.
- Develops new methods or assays based on minimal information or protocols.
- Ability to learn the use of acoustic liquid handlers, semi-automated liquid dispensers, plate readers, and other lab instruments.
- Maintains ELN in a well-organized manner. All necessary information is recorded for client facing purposes.
- Complies with all safety rules, practices good housekeeping, and maintains safe workplace without supervision.
- Regularly reviews goals and objectives with supervisor.
- Assumes responsibility for technical accuracy of work.
- Self- Motivated, requires minimal supervision and determines next steps with minimal guidance
- Makes logical suggestions of likely causes of problems and independently suggests solutions.
- Makes decisions based on an understanding of client program goals.
- Communicates frequently with client and provide frequent update reports.
- Contributes and/or participates in promotional activities (conferences, publications, poster presentations, lunch and tours, etc.)
Qualifications
Experience / Education
- PhD + 1 or MS + 5 or BS + 8 years of industry experience in biophysical assays and biological sciences.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Experience with biophysical characterization of small molecules and biologics interactions using Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR).
- Experience with other biophysical techniques such as Differential Scanning Fluorimetry (nanoDSF/DSF/TSA), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), MicroScale Thermophoresis (MST/SpS), Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI), Circular Dichroism (CD) and/or Isothermal Titration calorimetry (ITC) is a plus.
- The candidate must have a strong understanding of antibody-antigen biomolecular interactions, kinetics, and thermodynamics, and various aspects of immunology.
- Hand-on experience with handling and executing experiments on Carterra LSA, Biacore SPR, NanoTemper Panta, NanoTemper Dianthus, Malvern/TA ITC, and familiarity with antibody production & purification workflows are a plus.

- Computer skills: knowledge of internet research, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to learn instrument and data analysis software
- Good time management and multi-tasking skills in order to complete multiple projects within timelines.
- Expert knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within biological R&D laboratory setting
- Ability to effectively prioritize workload and manage changes in direction
- Regularly reviews goals and objectives with supervisor
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in an office environment with minimal noise conditions.
- Must be able to work in Lab setting with exposure to Animals/biohazards / Chemicals (List specific Chemicals)
- Must not have animal allergies to applicable species in this facility
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE
- Must be able to work in environment with variable noise levels
- Ability to stand /Sit/walk for long periods of time
- Ability to Lift 10 lbs. routinely
- Ability to crouch, bend, twist, and reach
- Ability to push/pull 10 lbs. routinely/ often / occasionally
- Clarity of Vision
- Ability to identify and distinguish colors
- Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions
- Ability to climb Ladders / Stairs / Scaffolding
- Ability to work in variable temperatures high to freezing
- Inside/outside working conditions
