Freeze-dried fruit snack line Brothers All Natural is launching a chocolate-covered version of their freeze-dried fruit crips, Chocolate-Covered Strawberries and Chocolate-Covered Bananas.
The fruit will be shipped directly from its prime growing location to a freeze-dried processing facility and will be dipped in 60 percent cocoa chocolate.
Freeze-drying is a relatively new technique in manufacturing to preserve food and increase its shelf life. It can be used in a variety of food products, such as soups, juices, confectionery, coffee, and fruits and vegetables.
For food manufacturers, freeze-drying is considered one of the best drying processes for packaging food and beverage products since it preserves the structure of the food and its flavor. It also preserves aroma, hydration, and bioactivity when compared to other food processing techniques.
As consumers become more conscious about what they eat, Robert Larsen, director of sales at Brothers All Natural says the company is looking for new ways to provide a healthier, yet tastier, alternatives to snacking.
“Our product is the perfect mixture of healthy fruit and delectably rich chocolate with an added crunch. We use dark chocolate as opposed to milk chocolate, so our chocolate-covered bananas and strawberries have a significantly healthier nutritional value than many of our competitors,” said Larsen.
In addition to health and taste, convenience is also a key driver for growth in the freeze-dried food market. According to Global Market Insights, in 2018, the industry was worth 40 billion and is forecasted to be worth 60 billion by 2025 growing at a compound annual growth rate of 7 percent.
Out of the freeze-dried product market, fruits are a key segment driving growth and made up one-third of the overall industry size in 2018.
As of now, the Brothers All Natural line of chocolate-covered fruit is exclusively available on their website or through Amazon.com.
