Summary of Position
As head of Protein Sciences within the Research department, you will lead a group of scientists focused on the purification and characterization of proteins (antibodies, bi/multispecifics, ADCs) by state-of-the-art chromatography and analytical technologies. Your group will collaborate with other Research groups to deliver and test high quality proteins in cell-based assays, mouse tumor models and in NHP studies. Interacting with downstream groups, you will facilitate the transition of lead candidates from Research to Development. As a scientific expert, you will be responsible for identifying opportunities and driving innovation in protein purification, characterization and developability assessment. As a people manager, you will invest in the growth and development of your staff to maintain a culture of collaboration and accountability.
Responsibilities and Job Duties
- Lead a team of scientists focused on protein purification and conjugation, biophysical characterization and developability assessment of protein therapeutics.
- Lead and mentor group members to work efficiently, collaboratively, and innovatively.
- Manage priorities, resources, and investments in alignment with the Research strategy
- Represent the Protein Sciences group in Research Project Teams
- Collaborate with Biophysical Development and CMC groups to facilitate efficient advancement of therapeutic candidates from Research to Development.
- Assess new technologies and methods to advance existing capabilities and improve platforms and workflows.
Qualifications
Associate Director, Protein Sciences
Education & Experience
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a related field with 8+ years of industry experience
- Experience in advancing protein therapeutics from discovery to development
- Strong understanding of antibody structure to aid in design and testing of product candidates
- Experience in leading a team of protein scientists and communicating timelines and priorities.
- Self-motivated with an ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and make decisions
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Director, Protein Sciences
Education & Experience
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a related field with 10+ years of industry experience
- Experience in advancing protein therapeutics from discovery to development
- Strong understanding of antibody structure to aid in design and testing of product candidates
- Experience in leading a team of protein scientists and communicating timelines and priorities.
- Self-motivated with an ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and make decisions
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Deep expertise in protein expression utilizing multiple platforms and scales, and chromatographic separation techniques for protein purification.
- Strong technical knowledge of analytical characterization techniques, including HPLC analytical methods, CE-SDS, mass spectrometry, DLS, thermal stability, SPR, and BLI techniques.
- Expertise in conjugation techniques, linker chemistry and bioconjugate characterization methods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with protein structure modeling
- Experience with electronic lab notebooks and LIMS
- Experience in lab automation, including automated analytical data acquisition, and analysis workflows
Supervisory Responsibilities
Yes – several Ph.D. and non-Ph.D. scientists
Additional Information
The annual rate of pay for this position ranges from $159,000 - $242,500 (Associate Director, Protein Sciences) and $184,500 –$281,300 (Director, Protein Sciences). For non-exempt roles, and according to applicable regulations, there may be the possibility for overtime pay. This role is eligible for the Company’s discretionary bonus and discretionary equity incentives.
