Jakob Mettler, International Communication Services – formerly Marketing Manager at Tillotts Pharma AG

Jakob Mettler, born in Basel, attended schools in England and in Switzerland, studied law at Zurich University (LLM hons.) and Canada and pursued language studies in Spain and Mexico.

Afterwards he joined the multinational Pharmaceutical company Hoffmann-La Roche. During his career with the Pharmaceuticals Dept. of Roche at Headquarters in Basel and for 5 years in the Japanese affiliate in Tokyo, Mr. Mettler had various marketing roles. He was International Product Manager for Interferon and Head of the Roche Medical Congress Service.

Jakob Mettler moved to Tillotts Pharma AG, who develop, manufacture and market original Pharmaceutical products worldwide from their locations in Ziefen and Rheinfelden, NW Switzerland. As Marketing Manager he was responsible for Product Management, Scientific Events and for Training.

At present Jakob A. Mettler International Communication Services/JAMIX offers a variety of communication services, among them the well-established training program “Professional Presentation Skills” and since 2012 ‘Switzerland – An Introduction’ designed to improve expats’ knowledge about their new ‘host’ country.

Thanks to growing up in England with Swiss parents, Mr. Mettler is bilingual in English and German and after a long and successful career in international marketing, is a recognised course director and speaker.

Brian E. Jones, Scientific Advisor, Qualicaps Europe S.A., Alcobendas (Madrid), Spain

Brian Jones has published more than 40 papers on various aspects of capsule usage, has three patents, has contributed to three books, and has lectured widely on hard capsules at conferences and to industrial companies in many countries. His particular interests are in colorants, gelatin and alternative materials, the performance of the empty shell, the formulation of products and the assessment of powders for filling.

Mr. Jones worked for Eli Lilly & Co. Ltd in Basingstoke UK for nearly 30 years until his retirement in 1994. During this period he was involved with all aspects of hard capsules, from empty shell manufacture, through capsule filling to the formulation of capsule products both for the Qualicaps Division and for all its customers. Since retirement he has been working as an independent consultant on hard capsules, as Brian Jones Associates. Since 1998 he has worked on a part-time basis for Qualicaps Europe, S.A. as a Scientific Advisor. He is based in Penarth and works through their office in Alcobendas (Madrid) Spain.

Mr. Jones also works for several industrial training companies teaching courses that involve capsules. He was co-editor of the recently published second edition of the reference book “Pharmaceutical Capsules” for the Pharmaceutical Press.

Mr. Jones is a graduate of the Welsh School of Pharmacy, University of Wales [B. Pharm., 1961 and M. Pharm., 1973], and was made a fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 1989 for distinction in the practice and profession of pharmacy. He is a member of APGI, AAPS, UKAPS, CRS, IPSE and the Académie des Alpilles. Since 1994 he has been an honorary lecturer in the Drug Delivery Department of the Welsh School of Pharmacy, Cardiff University, U.K.

Claudio Scialdone, Contract Services & Business Development Senior Manager, Tillotts Services (Tillotts Pharma AG), Ziefen, Switzerland

Claudio Scialdone joined Tillotts Pharma AG 16 years ago and has extensive expertise in project management, logistics and interdisciplinary team management. During his time at Tillotts he has managed several development and commercial products including Colpermin®, Mebeverine, Piascledine etc.

Mr. Scialdone started his career mainly with a technical background in the chemical and Pharmaceutical industry with further education as Technical Salesman and Project Management. Before joining Tillotts, Mr. Scialdone worked for 11 years at Ciba/Novartis in Basel in different technical functions in production and engineering departments.
