Chick-fil-A Launches a New Limited-Edition Entrée for the First Time Since 2019

Chick-fil-A has launched the Grilled Spicy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich, which is available nationwide starting January 25.

Chick-fil-A, a fast-food restaurant competing in the chicken sandwich segment, launched a new item on their menu, which is available nationwide starting January 25.

The company is kicking off the new year with a new grilled version of a spicy favorite sandwich. They are introducing the Grilled Spicy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich. This is available for a limited time at participating restaurants nationwide. The sandwich offers customers the same flavor as the current Chick-fil-A spicy offering but this one is grilled.

Chick-fil-A“We know guests are looking to add more variety to their meals, especially after a year where new food experiences were limited. The Grilled Spicy Deluxe is a flavorful twist on our current grilled offerings that we have been testing in select markets since 2017, and it provides a bold break from the standard lunch and dinner routines,” said Leslie Neslage, director of menu and packaging at Chick-fil-A, in a statement.” We dedicate an average of eighteen months to testing a new item before adding it to the national menu, which allows us time to ensure we can best support our restaurant Team Members while delivering a taste guests will love.”

The new Grilled Spicy Deluxe was first developed and tested in the Fall of 2017 and positive feedback was received from customers in the select markets chosen to trial the sandwich. Now it is the first limited-time entrée to be featured on their national menu since the summer of 2019.

The sandwich features a grilled chicken marinated in a spicy seasoning served on a toasted multigrain brioche bun with Colby-Jack cheese, lettuce and tomato. This feature item is said to pair perfectly with a pack of cool and creamy Cilantro Lime sauce, which is also available for a limited time and made specifically for the new sandwich.

Earlier this year, Shake Shack, a competitor in the burger space, launched a new fried chicken sandwich, which now competes in the chicken sandwich war. They introduced a Korean-style sandwich that combines fried chicken with a spicy-sweet Gochujang glaze which comes in a sandwich and chicken bites version.

McDonald’s introduced three new chicken sandwiches that will be seen on their menus in February. They also featured breaded chicken breasts with toppings and are available in spicy and deluxe variations.

Chick-fil-A is the largest restaurant chain after McDonald’s and Starbucks. In 2019, the chain surpassed Taco Bell and Subway to become the third-largest chain by sales. Their estimated sales in 2019 were about $11.3 billion and the fast-food chain had a 13 percent increase year-over-year. Additionally, in 2020, Chick-fil-A was ranked the number one favorite restaurant chain for the sixth year in a row. This was according to half a million consumers that were tasked with evaluating indicators such as order accuracy, food quality, speed of service and mobile app reliability.
