Department: PennDnA Strategic Decision Support - Payer/Population/Innovation

Summary:

The Associate Vice President (AVP) is a key architect of the Payer/Population/Innovation strategy at UPHS, serving as a principal advisor to Payer/Population/Innovation executives, and overseeing complex projects from conception to execution. This role requires a creative and visionary leader with a deep understanding of Payer/Population/Innovation and healthcare data analytics, a talent for understanding customers' needs and developing fit-for-purpose solutions, experience leading people across multiple teams, and a passion for leveraging data to inform and guide institutional strategy. The AVP reports to the Vice President of Strategic Decision Support.

Responsibilities:

  • Vision and Strategy: Accountable for the development of insights and recommendations that are incorporated into Payer/Population/Innovation strategic plans. In collaboration with Payer/Population/Innovation executives, develops strategies, builds business cases, creates action plans, and leads execution to achieve organizational goals. Identifies and prioritizes opportunities for PennDnA to deliver value at scale to Payer/Population/Innovation leaders.
  • Leadership and Influence: Develops credibility and trust with Payer/Population/Innovation leaders by demonstrating expertise, aligning around shared goals, and acting as a thought partner. Helps define UPHS's approach to data-driven decision making. Promotes best practices in data analytics and data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develops a deep understanding of customer needs and applies that knowledge to prioritize projects, design solutions, and execute. Engages technical, operational, and strategic leaders at all levels of the organization to align goals, clarify expectations, and inspire action. Leads projects of varying scale from conceptual frameworks through execution at the direction executive leadership.
  • Insight Generation Methodology: Assesses different data analytics methodologies for value, feasibility, and relevance. Develops standards and drive consistency in analysis methods within and across PennDnA.
  • Resource Management: Forecasts PennDnA resource requirements and re-prioritizes portfolio, as needed, to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and meet customer expectations.
  • Measurement and Accountability: Develops appropriate measures and annual goals for assessing service quality and levels to internal stakeholders for Payer/Population/Innovation. Leads the team to meet or exceed those goals.
  • Team Leadership: Lead teams of direct reports, multi-disciplinary groups and client management activities across a wide range of concerns. These teams will be +10 in scale and will require organizational ownership, process, and business management expertise to navigate efforts through executive requirements. In addition, this will require the construction of a positive team culture of collaboration and inclusivity that advances value generating ideas. Cultivation of leaders and an intent in the development of new generations of leaders is in the responsibility.
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Education Specialization: Business, Healthcare Administration or related field.
  • 10+ years of analytics and/or strategy consulting experience is required.
  • 5+ years of experience leading teams and/or complex projects of scope is required.
  • Master's degree is preferred.
