Job Description

The EMG Technician works under the supervision and direction of the provider and is responsible for measuring electrical activity in peripheral nerves using electromyography instrument for diagnosing and treating neuromuscular disorders, including test set-up, electrode application, assist physician with the electromyogram, while maintaining patient safety during clinically significant events.

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

License/Registration

• Active Board Registered END Technologist Certification

Work Experience and Additional Required l Information

• 1 year experience OR Neurology MA/LPN with 2 years experience

Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepares the patient, conducts testing and distinguishes between normal and abnormal results; recognizes physiological and non-physiological artifacts and takes appropriate steps to eliminate them, providing a high quality of care

• Communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient and higher level personnel to convey the purpose of the NCS

• Performs the appropriate calibration procedure on the electrodiagnostic instrument for standard recordings and thorough testing

• Serves as a clinical preceptor for new staff, fellows and residents for quality staff training

• Schedules diagnostic studies, processes messages and responds in a timely manner to maintain efficient workflow

• Act as a liaison between providers, patients, pharmacies, hospitals, other health professionals and nonclinical staff to provide a team approach to patient care
