SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE
The Metrology Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all metrology functions to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of measurement systems used across manufacturing and laboratory environments. This role provides strategic direction, manages a team of metrology professionals, and ensures robust calibration and maintenance programs are in place. The Metrology Manager drives continuous improvement, ensures regulatory compliance, and partners cross-functionally to support operational excellence and quality objectives.

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday; however, extended hours, off-hours support, or weekend work may be required based on operational needs.

The employee may be required to sit for extended periods, work at a computer, or stand/walk for long durations. The role may require lifting up to fifty (50) pounds and specific vision abilities as needed for equipment work.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in both office and laboratory/manufacturing environments. The role routinely uses standard office equipment and may require interaction with technical equipment in controlled environments. Business casual attire is required, along with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when applicable.

This role provides strategic direction, manages a team of metrology professionals, and ensures robust calibration and maintenance programs are in place. The Metrology Manager drives continuous improvement, ensures regulatory compliance, and partners cross-functionally to support operational excellence and quality objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Leadership & Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of metrology technicians and specialists. Establish performance expectations, provide coaching, and ensure appropriate training programs are in place to maintain technical competency.
- Calibration Program Oversight: Oversee and ensure execution of calibration activities for measurement instruments (e.g., HPLCs, gas chromatographs, dissolution systems), ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to defined schedules.
- Strategic Maintenance Management: Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to minimize downtime, extend equipment lifecycle, and improve operational efficiency.
- Vendor & Contractor Management: Establish and manage relationships with external vendors and service providers. Negotiate service agreements and ensure the quality and timeliness of outsourced calibration and repair services.
- Quality & Compliance Leadership: Ensure all metrology processes comply with applicable regulatory requirements and standards (e.g., ISO 17025, GMP, FDA). Lead audit readiness efforts and serve as a primary point of contact during inspections.
- Documentation & Data Integrity: Oversee the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of calibration records, certificates, and logs. Ensure systems support traceability and meet data integrity requirements.
- Inventory & Asset Management: Direct inventory strategy for metrology tools, parts, and supplies, balancing availability with cost control and waste reduction.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Laboratory teams to ensure alignment of metrology practices with organizational goals and project needs.
- Project & Program Management: Lead and manage metrology-related projects, including new equipment implementation, system upgrades, and process improvements.
- Reporting & Metrics: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for metrology operations. Provide regular reporting to leadership on performance, compliance status, and improvement initiatives.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance processes, systems, and technologies within the metrology function, driving efficiency and innovation.
REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES
- Leadership & People Management: Proven ability to lead teams, develop talent, and foster a high-performance culture.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to align metrology operations with broader organizational goals and long-term strategies.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of calibration, instrumentation, and metrology systems in regulated environments.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and timelines effectively.
- Systems & Software Proficiency: Experience with calibration management systems (CMS), asset management tools, and maintenance tracking software.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a structured, data-driven approach.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 7-12 years of progressive experience in metrology, calibration, or maintenance within pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industries
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success in managing compliance within GMP and regulatory environments
- Proven ability to implement process improvements and manage complex projects
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field preferred
