Job: Microbiology Coordinator
Classification: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Job Category: 3 Technicians

Position Summary
The microbiology coordinator is responsible for overseeing the work of those techs trained in and working in the microbiology department. They ensure that their team follows proper protocols, performs quality tests, and produces accurate results. The microbiology coordinator is responsible for training new hires and updating existing staff on best practices in their field.

Essential Functions
-Supervise and train microbiologists in all areas of department.
-Establishing safety guidelines and policies to prevent accidents and injuries to staff members or patients.
-Ensures that all microbiology equipment and facilities are properly maintained to reduce the risk of infection to patients and staff.
-Performs quality control checks on all products.
-Develops and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
-Evaluates the performance of staff members and providing regular feedback to ensure optimal performance.
-Ensures that patient records are accurate and up to date so that doctors can make informed decisions regarding treatment options.
-Has strong communication skills as they will need to communicate with staff, other departments, and providers.
-Assures that all duties are performed in compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
-Keeps microbiology supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
-Works closely with Infection Control on State Reportable organisms.
-Participates in and reports to QAPI meetings as needed.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
-Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
-Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Work Experience
-At least 3 years' experience in microbiology preferred.

Education
-Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or related field preferred.
-MLS certification preferred.
-BLS required within 30 days of employment.
