Job Duties:
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals and medications for imaging and therapeutic purposes in accordance with physician orders and safety standards.
- Perform PET and nuclear medicine imaging procedures with accuracy and efficiency.
- Prepare, position, and monitor patients throughout procedures, ensuring comfort and safety.
- Process and enhance images using advanced imaging software for diagnostic review.
- Evaluate images for technical quality and proper calibration of equipment.
- Record and document isotope dosages per established protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Observe patients during imaging and report any adverse reactions or abnormal activity.
- Maintain imaging equipment and ensure compliance with quality control standards.
- Ensure adherence to radiation safety protocols and infection control procedures.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to deliver timely diagnostic information.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and patient data in the imaging and medical record systems.
- Deliver excellent patient service and uphold the values of professionalism and respect.
- Stay current with advancements in PET/nuclear imaging technologies and procedures.
- Maintain adequate inventory of radiopharmaceuticals, contrast, and supplies; report shortages or expired items.
- Provide hands-on training and mentorship to students during clinical rotations, ensuring competency in imaging procedures, safety protocols, and patient care standards while fostering professionalism, confidence, and skill development.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology or Radiologic Technology program.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in nuclear medicine or PET imaging.
- Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology, Associates degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology, Certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
- Experience with advanced PET/CT procedures (e.g., Axumin, NETSPOT, Amyloid imaging).
- BLS or "Hands-On" CPR certification (required).
- Certification by one or more of the following:
- Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) - Nuclear Medicine [ARRT(N)]
- American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
- State license in Nuclear Medicine Technology, where applicable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of PET and nuclear medicine imaging techniques and protocols.
- Understanding of radiopharmaceuticals, dosage calculation, and radiation safety principles.
- Proficiency in image acquisition, post-processing, and diagnostic data interpretation.
- Skilled in operating PET and nuclear medicine equipment and related technology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-centered approach.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to assess technical image quality.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with PACS, RIS, and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Commitment to continued education, professional development, and quality improvement.
- Knowledge of ALARA principles, infection control, and emergency preparedness protocols.
