Job Summary

OdysseyHouse Louisiana, Inc. is seeking a full-time Patient Care Coordinator for theCommunity Health Center. The schedule for this positions is Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

This position is one of the most important functionsin the health care delivery system and the first point of contact. Thisposition will receive the patient and coordinate them into the services needed.Making appointments and making preliminary assessment category of payment forpatients are essential before provider can see them and proceed with billing inaccordance with services provided.

Responsibilitiesand Duties

It is theduty and responsibility of the Patient Care Coordinator to:

  • Greet and welcome patients in personor by phone, providing information about available services, paymentcategories, and billing procedures.
  • Schedule appointments, triage walk-insand emergencies, and manage patient flow according to clinic policies.
  • Call patients to remind them ofupcoming appointments and follow up on missed appointments ("no-shows") perprotocol.
  • Respond to patient questions,concerns, or complaints and escalate to the Clinic Manager when appropriate
  • Register patients according toestablished protocols and collect required documentation.
  • Accurately enter patient data into theElectronic Health Record (EHR) and grant-related reporting systems.
  • Generate route slips, ensure allservices provided are properly checked out, and maintain accurate patientfiles.
  • Verify insurance coverage, determinepatient financial responsibility, and apply the sliding fee scale asappropriate.
  • Collect deposits, co-pays, ordeductibles prior to appointments and issue receipts for collected payments.
  • Inform patients of outstandingbalances and assist with payment arrangements.
  • Prepare billing documents, utilize ICDand CPT codes, reconcile monthly bills, and coordinate with accounting forsubmission to third-party payers.
  • Assist patients in completing Medicaidapplications (online or paper).
  • Answer incoming phone calls, routemessages to the appropriate staff, and manage after-hours call service.
  • Support clinic operations bymaintaining inventory and ordering office supplies as needed.
  • Run requisitions for internal billingand ensure accurate reporting.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance (QA)and Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives.
  • Perform other administrative andoperational duties as assigned.
  • Work closely with medical, nursing,and health promotion staff to ensure smooth patient flow and reduce wait times.
  • Coordinate with outreach staff forfollow-up on missed appointments or referrals.
  • Contribute to team-based careinitiatives and support integrated service delivery.

Qualificationsand Skills

Minimum qualifications include the following:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge in CPT billingcertification, HIPAA training
  • One year of medical experience from asimilar setting
  • Ability to relate to patients throughfamiliarity with medical terminology
  • Ability to communicate with people andunderstand their problems
  • Belief in health care with dignity forall
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite

Preferred qualifications include the following:
  • Prior knowledge of electronic PracticeManagement Systems and Electronic Health Records
  • Medicaid Application trained
  • Sliding Fee Scale experience
