Job Description
The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center is currently seeking a skilled and motivated Prep & Line Cook to join the Cafe team and play a pivotal role in assisting in the overall success of the culinary operations. This full-time (35 hours per week) Monday-Friday daytime, benefit eligible position offers pay starting at $18.50 an hour. Under general supervision, this position performs various food preparation, cooking, and cleaning tasks to ensure the kitchen remains efficient in creating and delivering dishes to patrons.

- Follow the daily prep list create by the Kitchen Manager
- Setup workstations and ensure all ingredients are stocked for service
- Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible
- Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, etc.
- During the 11:00-1:30 Café lunch; prepare simple dishes such as salads, sandwiches, flatbreads, etc.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash, etc.
- Ensure all food and other items are prepared and stored properly and adhere to HACCP guidelines to ensure safe and sanitary food production
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager
- Assist with Catering when needed when there are in house/ eternal events.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to relay pertinent information
- Demonstrated ability to manage time and prioritize duties to meet deadlines
- Work cooperatively, with high energy, in a face paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
- Knowledge of catering, with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, cost control and presentation is a plus

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, training from a culinary school a plus
- 2+ years of kitchen experience.
- Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen, ServSafe certification preferred
