Job Description

Aker BioMarine is a leading human health and nutrition innovator that develops krill-derived products for consumer health and nutrition. Krill is a natural, powerful, and health-promoting source of nutrients from the pristine waters of Antarctica, and Aker BioMarine has a unique position in its industry.

In Aker BioMarine we believe in a world where everyone has access to quality nutrition and good health without compromising the planet.

We are looking for more people like us, who believe they can make a difference in the world.

We are about 250 employees globally, with more than 25 nationalities, spread across all time zones and most continents. Together, we form an international, high performing, diverse and fun work environment.

Working with us means you appreciate diversity, are highly skilled within your field and can cope with unexpected situations. You enjoy a fast pace, tolerate quick decisions and continuously ongoing changes. You are a true team player who "chips in" when the situation requires so.

Process Scientist

The Process Scientist is responsible for leveraging process and sensor data to understand, optimize, and continuously improve manufacturing performance. The role focuses on analyzing production line data to identify variability, root causes, and improvement opportunities, and then translating these insights into implemented process changes that enhance efficiency, quality, reduce cost, and ensure robustness of operations. The Process Scientist is part of our Technology Hub and together with his/her colleagues will work closely with stakeholders in Manufacturing and R&D.

Responsibilities:
• Design and execute laboratory and pilot-scale experiments to investigate process performance, reaction behavior, and material properties.
• Apply statistical analysis and scientific reasoning to interpret experimental data, identify trends, variability, and root causes.
• Develop and optimize lab-scale processes, including reaction conditions, separations, and purification strategies.
• Plan and execute design of experiments (DoE) studies to efficiently evaluate process variables and define operating windows.
• Document analyses, recommendations, and implemented improvements in line with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain detailed experimental records and generate high-quality technical reports to support decision-making and knowledge transfer.
• Collaborate with analytical teams to characterize intermediates, impurities, and final products using appropriate techniques.
• Translate lab findings into scalable process recommendations, supporting pilot and manufacturing scale-up efforts.
• Troubleshoot experimental challenges, including reaction inefficiencies, yield losses, and reproducibility issues.
• Support new product and process development through iterative experimentation and rapid prototyping in the lab.
• Contribute to technology transfer by preparing process descriptions, critical parameters, and risk assessments.
• Ensure safe laboratory practices and compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.

Support continuous improvement initiatives by developing new experimental methods, workflows, and lab capabilities.

Requirements:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
• 3+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in process development, reaction engineering, or applied chemistry.
• Strong background in experimental design (DoE), data analysis, and statistical interpretation.
• Experience supporting new product development and technology transfer from a scientific and production perspective
• Demonstrated experience developing or optimizing chemical or biochemical processes at bench or pilot scale.
• Familiarity with common lab equipment and unit operations (e.g., reactors, filtration, centrifugation, distillation, extraction).
• Experience with analytical techniques (e.g., GC, NMR, ICP, or similar) and data interpretation.
• Understanding of scale-up principles and the ability to translate lab results to manufacturing processes.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, process control, and scale-up from development to production
• Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, JMP, Python, or similar).
• Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on, experimental mindset.
• Effective communication skills, with the ability to clearly present technical findings to cross-functional teams.

Ability to work collaboratively with R&D, analytical, and manufacturing teams.
