Job Overview

The Capital Projects Project Manager provides technical leadership to capital project teams and site staff. This individual serves as a mentor while simultaneously leading their own portfolio of capital and/or strategic projects. The role ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Mentoring
  • Help to mentor and develop department project engineers
  • Provide coaching and technical guidance to engineers sharing best practices
  • Foster a culture of safety and collaboration

Project Ownership
  • Act as the lead engineer and project manager on capital or strategic projects.
  • Develop and execute project plans including scope, schedule, budget, procurement strategy, and risk management.
  • Coordinate cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment with operational, safety, regulatory, and business goals.
  • Oversee contractor and vendor relationships for assigned projects.

Strategic and Technical Contributions
  • Support Operations, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Environmental Health Safety & Security and Process Engineering to ensure a safe and efficient facility to produce quality materials.
  • Provide necessary engineering calculations and estimates to support project related design pertaining to assigned work and complete project Capital Authorization Requests.
  • Develop / Create / revise drawings and sketches as they pertain to projects and other tasks throughout the facility.
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with project management including creating and maintaining capital project budgets and schedules, purchase requisition entry, and monthly time allocation.
  • Enters data on maintenance database as required for proper maintenance documentation as applied to Capital projects and work orders.
  • Provide regular updates on all project status or as required
  • Maintain/update appropriate department files, including but not limited to: Capital asset requests, project closure forms, equipment inspection reports, appropriate change control documentation, cGMP files, Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Support all requested HAZOP functions.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of project engineering standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence projects as required.

  • Reports to: Associate Director, Engineering / Capital Projects

  • Role Type: Active project responsibilities with no direct reports

Qualifications/Skills

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in regulated manufacturing environments is preferred.

Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience, with experience leading large capital projects

Physical Demands, Work Environment, and Travel
  • Ability lift and move 25 lbs
  • Physical mobility requirements
  • Limited exposure to chemicals, moving parts, vibration, and noise in an industrial plant setting
  • Available to travel as needed in support of site projects (a few times per year, ~5%)
