Job Description:
Responsible for leading, performing, and reporting on experiments using microbiology, molecular, and genomics techniques as well as other applicable methodologies leading to new products, services, or process improvements.
Specific duties include:
• Leads projects for the development, manufacturing, quality control (QC) of new processes, microbiology/molecular products, or cell-based biomaterials and transfers necessary details to other functional units (Production/QC) as needed.
• Based on group designation, perform microbiology, virology, and cell culture techniques including but not limited to microbial/viral culture, enumeration/titration, isolation, and identification using traditional and rapid methods.
• Performs molecular biology techniques including but not limited to PCR, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid quantitation, cloning, nucleic acid isolation, bacterial transformation, and transfection.
• Performs genomics techniques including but not limited to next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation, library QC, NGS instrument operation, and data analysis.
• Designs experiments, plans, assists, and trains others in manufacturing test lots for R&D functions according to the appropriate DMR, policies, and procedures.
• Compiles data and presents results, analysis, and recommendations for new products and processes.
• Documents research to support new product design controls, validations, verification, qualification, and specification/performance and statistical analysis as they apply to the company's products and according to policies and procedures.
• Leads projects for the development and production of products for customer requests or service contract projects.
• Communicates with customers regarding results and custom specifications.
• Writes, reviews, and trains others on new department SOPs/update existing department SOPs.
• Collaborates, supports, and communicates on a regular basis with project teams and members of other functional areas.
• Makes detailed observations, summarizes, and analyzes data and interprets results to provide solutions to technical problems in a resourceful and creative way.
• Actively acquires new lab skills and specialized knowledge. May serve as a subject matter expert on methods, techniques, or diagnostic platforms within the R&D department.
• Maintains an understanding of regulations and scientific methods used in molecular, microbial or virological detection and product/biomaterial development, recognizing critical characteristics of Microbiologics products.
Job Requirements:
Requires Bachelor's degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Genetics/Genomics, or related field, plus two years of experience.
Experience must include:
• Experience in next-generation sequencing methods including library preparation, quality control, data analysis, and instrument operation.
• Experience with basic molecular biology techniques (cloning, PCR, primer design, etc.).
• Experience with aseptic technique, basic chemistry techniques and formulations.
• Experience working with various public databases for retrieving publications or nucleotide sequences.
• Experience working with automated laboratory equipment and multiple commercial assays and platforms.
Occasional remote work is allowed.
