Summary

The Torre laboratory in the Department of Pathology and Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic candidate to help unravel pathways contributing to chemotherapy-related cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. The lab performs experiments on fruit fly and mouse model systems, as well as human brain tissue. The ultimate goal of the lab is to develop therapies to improve cognition in chemotherapy patients and patients at risk of developing dementia. The ideal candidate is highly organized, has excellent communication skills, and is passionate about science. Tasks and responsibilities of this position include assisting with daily operations of a research lab and collecting and analyzing data.

Job Duties

  • Maintain mouse and fruit fly colonies
  • Perform mouse behavioral testing and intraperitoneal injections of chemotherapeutic agents
  • Perform immunohistochemical studies and molecular assays (e.g. western blot, RT-qPCR)
  • Develop techniques and prepare SOPs required for specific research projects
  • Assist in day-to-day operations of a scientific research laboratory (e.g. ordering supplies)
  • Collect and analyzes data
  • Prepare graphs and figures for publications
  • Conduct literature searches and summarizes information to help plan future studies
  • Participate in lab meetings
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement
