THE OPPORTUNITY

Vir Biotechnology is looking for a Senior Scientist I to lead development of bioassays to interrogate the mechanism of action for T Cell engagers and other biologic therapeutics. You will design and execute cell-based activity, target binding, and reporter gene assays for characterization testing in support of product, process and formulation development, and comparability and structure-activity relationship studies. You will develop new methods, optimize, and qualify a selection of methods according to regulatory and phase appropriate requirements. You will design and conduct laboratory experiments, author protocols/reports, and serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for bioassays on cross-functional teams.

This role is located in our San Francisco headquarters with an expectation of 5 days per week in office.

You will report to the Director of Analytical Development Bioassays.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Develop, qualify and transfer cell-based and binding bioassays and reporter gene assays
  • Bring in new assay modalities and technology to the group and collaborate with other analytical teams within Vir
  • Prepare assay standards, controls, critical reagents, and establish appropriate system suitability criteria
  • Perform characterization testing including binding assays (SPR, ELISA), reporter gene assays, and cell-based activity assays to support Process and Formulation development studies
  • Troubleshoot method-related issues internally and at external labs
  • Author study protocols, development/qualification reports and test methods, summarize and verify data for regulatory filings
  • Subject matter expert for Bioassays within the Product and Process Development department and the broader CMC organization

WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of industry experience, Master’s degree with 8+ years of industry experience, PhD with 5+ years of industry experience
  • Experience in bioassay method development, transfer and validation
  • Experience in T Cell biology, immunology, or related field
  • Experience in data analysis of bioassays including parallel line analysis and other statistical data analysis for evaluating method performance
  • Ability to execute laboratory experiments both independently and with other team members
  • Effective at trouble-shooting method-related issues at CDMOs and CROs
  • Experience working on multiple projects, adjusting quickly to changes in priorities

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE OFFER

The expected salary range for this position is $158,000 to $199,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.

Vir Biotechnology's compensation and benefits are aligned with the current market and commensurate with the person’s experience and qualifications.
