Position Overview

Fusion Innovation is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Administrative Services Lead to own the design, delivery, performance, and operational evolution of the administrative services domain for a large-scale, globally distributed mission platform. This position will provide technical leadership across control-plane services, administrative interfaces, user and role management, authentication and authorization, system lifecycle management, and peripheral/device management services. The Administrative Services Lead will also serve as a key technical point of contact for peripheral vendors, middleware providers, and SDK suppliers, helping evaluate, certify, integrate, and maintain third-party components within the platform.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced engineer who combines software and service ownership, distributed systems expertise, platform administration design, integration discipline, and technical leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the administrative services portfolio for a globally distributed software platform, including control-plane services, administrative interfaces, user and role administration, authentication and authorization, installation and upgrade services, and peripheral/middleware management.
• Define and maintain the architecture and delivery roadmap for administrative capabilities across multiple environments and deployment types.
• Lead the development and sustainment of administrative experiences supporting system administrators, operations personnel, field and support teams, site or regional managers, and role-specific users.
• Design and maintain user provisioning and lifecycle management capabilities.
• Develop and support role-based access control, permissions models, delegated administration, and secure administrative workflows.
• Oversee integration and lifecycle management for hardware peripherals, drivers, SDKs, vendor APIs, middleware services, and related dependencies.
• Serve as the primary technical lead for vendor engagement related to device and middleware integration and certification.
• Establish processes for evaluating and introducing new peripherals and middleware providers, including technical evaluation, certification criteria, compatibility testing, documentation, and supportability requirements.
• Ensure administrative services support reliable installation, upgrades, rollback, and operational support across geographically distributed sites.
• Manage compatibility across software, firmware, drivers, SDKs, middleware, and vendor releases.
• Partner with Software Architecture, Platform Engineering, Security, Field Engineering, Operations, and QA teams to ensure the administrative and control-plane stack is secure, reliable, and supportable.
• Independently manage the administrative services domain and drive technical and delivery outcomes.
• Participate in technical triage and root-cause analysis involving authentication, user access, administration, device integration, and platform management workflows.
• Define service boundaries, ownership models, technical roadmaps, and operational standards for the administrative services portfolio.
• Develop technical design documentation and communicate architecture, risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to technical and executive stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field; four additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
• 10+ years of software engineering, platform engineering, or related technical experience, including 4+ years leading a major technical service area or engineering team.
• Strong experience designing and delivering administrative or control-plane services for complex distributed systems.
• Experience with one or more of the following:

  • Installation, upgrade, and lifecycle orchestration
  • Device or peripheral management platforms
• Experience leading cross-functional delivery across software engineering, operations, QA, field engineering, and support teams.
• Proven experience integrating third-party components into production systems, including hardware peripherals, SDKs, middleware, drivers, and versioned dependencies.
• Strong understanding of compatibility management across software, firmware, drivers, middleware, and vendor releases.
• Experience supporting multiple user personas with varying levels of administrative access.
• Ability to engage external vendors and establish technical integration, documentation, testing, and certification standards.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance roadmap development and operational support requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical design documentation and executive-level communication.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Analytics, or a related technical field.
• Experience supporting Linux-based distributed environments.
• Experience with Java-based backend services and modern web administrative interfaces.
• Experience with role-based access control, identity federation, and secure administrative workflows.
• Experience remotely managing fielded systems across geographically distributed sites.
• Experience designing software certification or onboarding processes for third-party peripherals and vendors.
• Familiarity with release engineering and compatibility testing for drivers, SDKs, and middleware.
• Experience supporting highly available or mission-critical operational platforms.
• Experience developing technical documentation and knowledge artifacts for administrative workflows, upgrade procedures, and supported-device matrices.
• Experience with modern frontend administrative frameworks such as Vue.js.
• Experience with Consul, Nomad, Vault, or equivalent orchestration and service-discovery technologies.
• Experience with observability and operational tooling for control-plane services.
• Familiarity with image capture, scanning, reader devices, kiosk/eGate-style systems, or other edge peripherals.
• Experience supporting multilingual administrative interfaces or globally deployed platforms.
• Experience supporting formal certification and testing programs for external hardware or middleware providers.

Travel

Domestic and/or international project travel may be required.

Compensation & Benefits

Fusion Innovation anticipates the annual base salary for this position will generally range from $100,000 to $215,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to:

• Relevant education, certifications, and training
• Years of direct applicable experience with this work and the customer
• Contract labor category requirements, skill level, contract bill rate, and hours allocation
• Alignment with the position's responsibilities
• Additional specialized skills
