LED curing systems are quickly replacing broad spectrum bulb systems when it comes to using light-curable adhesives in medical device assembly applications. But that replacement should not take place without careful consideration of several important factors that ultimately impact the performance of the finished device. Because not all light-curable chemistries are LED optimized, and some formulas may not be LED compatible at all, they are not always able to be dropped into an existing line. In cases where the adhesive does cure with LED, it’s important to ensure that all adhesive bonds are still maintaining the same performance characteristics in your device or assembly. An adhesive cured with LED does not necessarily deliver the same performance properties as the broad-spectrum-cured adhesive it’s replacing.
