This workshop will explore the utility of rapid diagnostics as a tool in antimicrobial stewardship efforts in a community hospital setting. The discussion will include a review of the important role of microbiology and pharmacy in driving successful implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programs.

Brad Crane, Pharm.D., BCPS, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Infectious Diseases, Blount Memorial Hospital

Dr. Brad Crane is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Diseases at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tennessee.  He graduated with his doctorate in pharmacy from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.  He completed post-graduate training with a pharmacy practice residency and a critical care specialty residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.  Dr. Crane was a critical care pharmacist for 10 years before he justified and transitioned into his current role as the Infectious Diseases Pharmacist and Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.  He is a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist with Added Qualifications in Infectious Diseases.  Dr. Crane is a current member of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP), Making a Difference in Infectious Diseases Pharmacotherapy (MAD-ID), American College of Clinical Pharmacists (ACCP), and American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).  He is a Clinical Assistant Professor for the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy and has presented at several professional meetings on antimicrobial stewardship and rapid diagnostic testing topics.
