The Secrets of Seaweed: Wellness Solutions for Food, Nutraceutical and Cosmetics Product Formulations

Although seaweeds have been around for over 2.5 billion years, many of us are unaware of the unique complex bioactive compounds that these marine plants contain compared to terrestrial plants. As such, seaweeds can provide natural nutritional and functional benefits for product formulations across the functional food, nutraceutical and cosmetics sectors.

In human research, there is reason to hope that seaweeds may hold important secrets leading to scientific breakthroughs in diseases such as diabetes, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular disease.

With over 25 years of industry experience, Cornish is primarily responsible for the annual production of the macro algal inoculum for Acadian’s commercial seaweed food production facility. Cornish has numerous peer-reviewed journal publications on wild marine algae including reviews of seaweeds and brain health, as well as the prebiotic impacts of seaweeds on the human gut microbiome. Cornish holds a Master of Science from St. Francis Xavier University, Nova Scotia, Canada.
