Endometriosis can cause pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding and infertility, yet diagnosis can take years. Symptoms overlap with other conditions, and their severity does not always reflect the extent of disease.

Dr. Bischoff explains that someone with severe symptoms may have relatively mild disease, while another patient with extensive endometriosis may have less obvious symptoms.
Ultrasound and MRI can identify some forms of endometriosis, including ovarian and deep infiltrating disease, but smaller superficial lesions and early-stage disease can be more difficult to detect.
Dr. Bischoff discusses multiomic approaches that combine several biological signals, as well as how AI and machine learning can analyze large numbers of biomarkers simultaneously.
