Meet Xtalks Featured Community Member Giselle Della Rosa, MSc, Epidemiologist at ACUMAR, whose work translates complex surveillance data into actionable health strategies. From coordinating Argentina’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign to advancing environmental risk monitoring, read how she’s shaping data-informed public health.
What Are Your Proudest Life Science Achievements?
I am a Nutritionist and Epidemiology Specialist with over 14 years of experience focused on analytical rigor, protocol monitoring and population safety in high-complexity health settings. My work has centered on translating data surveillance into concrete health interventions. As the Environmental Epidemiology Coordinator at ACUMAR, I developed and implemented tools for environmental risk detection, evaluation and monitoring, advising the Health Department on strategic interventions.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was part of the regional committee for the Ministerio de Salud de la Provincia de Buenos Aires and coordinated the COVID-19 vaccination campaign across over 50 centers, ensuring adherence to SOPs, patient safety and the monitoring of Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI).
I worked as an advisor in the Directorate of Perinatal and Childhood Health (National Ministry of Health), collaborating on the development of monitoring and evaluation indicators and on strengthening national surveillance strategies.
I am also currently a university lecturer and researcher at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, where my work focuses on data quality, indicator development and the critical review of surveillance systems. In this role, I lecture on Public Health and Statistics.
What Are Your Day-to-Day Job Highlights?
I focus on systematization, advanced analysis and strategic communication of epidemiological data. My role involves preparing technical reports, monitoring key indicators and developing training programs to ensure effective protocol application on the ground.
What Are Your Favorite Life Science Innovations?
My favourite life science innovations include innovations in epidemiology, digital health, clinical research and data analysis.
What Is Your Vision for the Future of the Industry?
I see a future where automation and artificial intelligence handle the high-volume, repetitive tasks of discrepancy detection and routine quality checks. This will lead to a significant increase in efficiency and speed. In summary, the future is digital, but it relies more than ever on rigorous human expertise to ensure data quality and compliance are built into every process.
