Say hello to Xtalks Featured Community Member Dr. Simran Padam, MD, APMMC, Senior Medical Director at Worldwide Clinical Trials, whose work is advancing oncology research and global clinical trial excellence. Read her profile responses below.
What Are Your Proudest Life Science Achievements?
My proudest achievements stem from my role as a Medical Director. I have had the privilege of educating industry experts on topics related to oncology, hematology and cell and gene therapy. This initiative has progressed through a diverse range of mediums, including webinars, presentations, articles and blogs. I feel incredibly proud when colleagues reach out to me with their comments, questions and feedback. Additionally, I take great pride in my contributions to clinical research, which help bring innovative therapies to patients who need them. In my role, I strive to live by my motto: “Think globally, act locally.”
What Are Your Day-to-Day Job Highlights?
My day-to-day job includes providing medical and scientific oversight for clinical trials. I assess eligibility criteria for patients and review adverse events and serious adverse events to ensure patient safety. A significant part of my role is working closely with sponsors, investigators and clinical teams to address safety concerns, as this cross-functional collaboration is key to clinical trial success. I also develop protocols and study designs that align with regulatory requirements and clinical objectives. Ensuring trial compliance with FDA, EMA, ICH-GCP and other global regulatory standards is a shared responsibility. I participate in regulatory submissions, meetings and responses, contributing my expertise to the team. Data review and medical monitoring are also collaborative efforts. I stay updated on emerging oncology treatments, biomarkers and trial methodologies, and present my findings at medical conferences, advisory boards and industry meetings. Engaging with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and contributing to oncology publications is another way I work with others to advance our field.
What Are Your Favorite Life Science Innovations?
My favorite innovations in life science include the development of CAR T-cell therapy for conditions beyond hematologic malignancies, specifically in solid tumors and autoimmune diseases. Additionally, advancements in cell and gene therapies — such as natural killer cell therapy and tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte therapy — are significantly transforming the landscape of personalized medicine.
What Is Your Vision for the Future of the Industry?
AI and machine learning will shape the future of the industry in drug development by incorporating real-world data (RWD). This will accelerate drug discovery, help select trial sites and optimize patient recruitment, ultimately reducing study timelines and costs. Additionally, it will ensure greater diversity and inclusion in trials and advance personalized and precision medicine.
