The Director of Individual Giving leads the strategy, growth, and stewardship of OMSI's individual giving program, with a focus on growing the pipeline for and securing major gifts. The Director manages a team of individual giving officers and works with the team to expand and diversify OMSI's base of individual supporters to generate $1 million or more in support for unrestricted operating funds and restricted funds for strategic initiatives and campaign resources annually
In collaboration with the Individual Giving Team, the Director develops and executes strategies that inspire philanthropy and deepen donor relationships across OMSI's community of supporters. This includes participation in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive donor engagement plan to secure resources for general operations, strategic initiatives, capital projects, exhibitions, and campaigns.
In collaboration with the Vice President of Development and Development leadership, the Director works to set the strategic direction, metrics, and revenue goals of the Development division; builds the philanthropic pipeline to meet and exceed goals in unrestricted and restricted giving; and creates the systems and processes necessary to achieve sustainable, year-over-year growth in both revenue and donor participation.
The Director manages the Individual Giving Team of two current full-time staff, and ensures best-in-class individual philanthropic practices from prospecting to stewardship.

Candidates must have, but not limited to:
- Developed knowledge of Portland's philanthropic landscape to lead others in donor stewardship strategy and activities at OMSI;
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques surrounding a prospect management/moves management program in a complex development operation;
- Experience effectively working with a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and/or database system, including mentoring/coaching others with its use;
- Effective at building and maintaining strong relationships with people of diverse talents and backgrounds, with an emphasis on relationship stewardship and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through a racial equity lens.
- Academic degree that demonstrates research, presentation, relationship-building, and communication knowledge, skills, and abilities;
- 5 years of progressive experience in individual donor development and major gift fundraising, including prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, portfolio and pipeline management, budgeting, and donor relations across multiple giving levels and degrees of complexity;
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in medium and/or large scale development or fundraising work environments-with 3 years in a management role-with the following:
- Demonstrated donor relations and/or stewardship experience, with an emphasis on increasing donor and partner engagement, as well as working on high-stake projects or campaigns;
- Demonstrated experience in setting long-term, strategic, departmental fundraising plans;
- Demonstrated project management experience, with an emphasis on staff supervision, multiple project management, resourceful problem-solving and adaptability, process improvements, and budget responsibility;
- Experience working in prospect research and relationship management;
- Experience managing project budgets and utilizing appropriate accounting or tracking systems;
- Track record of establishing or contributing to system and processes improvements.
- Experience effectively communicating with a variety of internal and external stakeholders in a work environment, as well as fostering strong and lasting community partnerships and relationships.
- Minimum of 3 years experience with supervising and supporting the professional growth and development of staff.
