The Manager I, Extractions, is responsible for leading and coordinating laboratory staff and operations within the Extractions area to ensure efficient and compliant workflow. This role focuses on driving performance in quality, timeliness, and throughput by effectively managing personnel, equipment, and processes. The position supports continuous improvement and the development of team capabilities while ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards, operating under the guidance of senior management.

The Manager I, Extractions, is responsible for leading and coordinating laboratory staff and operations within the Extractions area to ensure efficient and compliant workflow. This role focuses on driving performance in quality, timeliness, and throughput by effectively managing personnel, equipment, and processes. The position supports continuous improvement and the development of team capabilities while ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards, operating under the guidance of senior management.
Responsibilities
- Train, develop, motivate, and evaluate a competent workforce in cooperation with the management team and under the guidance of their reporting manager.
- Overall responsibility to ensure that production targets and turnaround time goals are met.
- Ensure that the team meets safety, quality, and cost control objectives.
- Contribute to coordination of resources between groups.
- Provide technical oversight and help with troubleshooting/problem resolution as appropriate.
- Ensure that equipment and instruments are appropriately maintained, and that lab documentation is well organized and up to date.
- Oversee communications with other shifts.
- Contribute to decisions with regard to budgeting and spending for group.
- Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications
- Associates degree or equivalent technical training or experience. (High School Diploma/GED required)
- Two to 5 years of direct laboratory experience with demonstrated technical/judgment skills. Must also have demonstrated management or supervisory skills in a laboratory environment.
- Demonstrated management or supervisory skills in a laboratory environment.
- Knowledge of standard lab procedures and instrumentation.
- Able to work well in a production team environment with strong organizational skills.
- Consistent attention to detail and verbal/written communication skills.
- Computer skills with laboratory LIMS and instrumentation software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - BS/BA in a directly related science/chemistry field or an equivalent combination of experience and coursework.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting skills.
- Detailed equipment knowledge for the extractions area.
- Specific method knowledge of relevant EPA methods and area SOP's.
- Demonstrated success when working in a dynamically changing environment.
- Ability to adapt to and manage variable work volumes coming through lab area.
- Experience in leading an entry-level team.
- Experience in designing and managing cross-training.
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to handle both desk and laboratory work environments.
